Detailed Description

Mexican Agave Nectar is an all-natural sweetener with the lowest glycemic index of available sweeteners. Agave Nectar is obtained from the naturally occurring, desert Agave plant, which is mostly found in Mexico, southern and western United States and in central and tropical South America.

Agave Nectar is produced in Mexico and comes from the same family as the Blue Agave Plant, or Agave tequilana, which is used to make tequila. Agaves are commonly thought to be a cactus, but the plant is actually related to the lily and amaryllis families and as such has its own genus.

The Blue Agave plant was used for its medicinal and functional properties by early inhabitants of the Americas thousands of years ago. It was not until recently, however, that the nectar from the plant was recognized for its exceptionally sweet properties. Today, the circular 'heart' of the finest Blue Agave plants is harvested and processed for its Blue Agave Nectar by Molino Real.

Agave Nectar is nature's sweetener

The delicious nectar from the Agave plant can be used the same as traditional sweeteners to sweeten any beverage or dish. It has a low glycemic index, and is a healthful and safe alternative to table sugar. Unlike the crystalline form of fructose, which is refined primarily from corn, Agave Nectar is fructose in its natural form.

Agave Nectar does not contain any processing chemicals. In addition, agave is sweeter than table sugar, so less is needed in your recipes and meals. It can be most useful for people who are diabetic, have insulin resistance (Type II, non-insulin dependant) or are simply watching their carbohydrate intake.

Agave Nectar is the recommended natural caloric sweetener in low calorie diets for reduction and weight control, mainly when it is added to non-acidic foods and beverages. Although agave nectar does have calories, it can be used to fight weight gain because it is burned in the body more slowly than table sugars or sucrose.

Agave Nectar syrup contains a higher percentage of fructose sugars compared to glucose sugars. Because fructose is 42% sweeter to the human brain than granulated sugar, less is needed to achieve the same level of sweetness. The less used, the fewer the calories consumed (resulting in enhanced weight loss).

Fructose is also easier to digest and is converted into more energy than standard refined sucrose products or even so-called "natural sugars" found in health food stores. Unlike fructose sweeteners that are produced chemically, Agave Nectar contains no sulfur dioxide, hydrochloric acid, or other harmful toxins. This gives Agave Nectar advantages in both the food industry and the health of the consumer.

In recipes, we recommend using about 75% less of this nectar than you would use of table sugar. 1/4 cup of Agave Nectar should equal 1 cup of table sugar. For most recipes this rule works well. When used in less quantity than sucrose or synthetic sweeteners, Agave Nectar retains the same level of sweetness with fewer calories. Due to its slow absorption by the human body, Agave Nectar works as an intelligent caloric food, causing the body to absorb what the body needs. Agave Nectar enhances any dish’s flavor, retaining its sweetness for a longer period of time.

Naturally fortified with Inulin

Agave is naturally fortified with Inulin, which is a group of naturally occurring oligosaccharides (several simple sugars linked together) produced by many types of plants. They belong to a class of carbohydrates known as fructans. Inulin is used by some plants as a means of storing energy and is typically found in roots or rhizomes and is increasingly being used in foods for its excellent nutritional and functional characteristics.

Inulins range from completely bland to subtly sweet and can be used to replace sugar, fat, and flour. It also increases calcium absorption and possibly magnesium absorption, while promoting probiotic bacteria. Nutritionally, it is considered a form of soluble fiber. Inulin has a minimal impact on blood sugar, making it generally considered suitable for diabetics and potentially helpful in managing blood sugar-related illnesses.

High in natural fructose and nutrients, Agave Nectar can be used to sweeten any food or beverage with fewer calories and greater flavor Agave Nectar is used successfully to:

  • Flavor cereals
  • Fortify bread products
  • Sweeten nutrition bars
  • Enhance fruit concentrations
  • Sweeten desserts
  • Sweeten candy
  • Sweeten coffee or tea
  • Pour on pancakes and waffles

Agave Nectar is an exceptionally low glycemic index sweetener and contains no chemicals. And yes, it is also a very safe sweetener for kids!
